I chose to share my Tom and Jerry Drink Recipe.  I had never heard of a Tom and Jerry before.  As far as I knew, it was just a cartoon that I grew up with and not a drink.  However, shortly after marrying my husband and visiting his family for the holidays in Wisconsin, I was introduced to this great drink.  This is kind of similar to eggnog.  However, I like the Tom and Jerry so much better because this is not as thick as eggnog.  Tom and Jerry has a nice light taste that still gives you the flavor of the Cinnamon and Allspice that reminds me so much of the holidays.  This is a very popular drink in Wisconsin as I quickly found out.  You can get this premixed in the frozen section of the grocery store.  But, I was never able to find it in California or now in the Pacific Northwest.  To our surprise, my husband and I came across some of his Grandmother’s recipes not long ago and one just happened to be for Tom and Jerry’s.  We were so excited because now we could share a little of Wisconsin with our daughters and share a drink with them that my husband grew up with. One of the best parts is that when you make it, it’s non-alcoholic, but when it’s especially cold outside you can add a little Brandy or Rum to your mug for a little added warmth.

Tom and Jerry Drink Recipe:

Makes about 24 Servings-

  • (6) Egg Whites- Stiffly Beaten
  • (6) Egg Yolks- Beaten until Light
  • 1-1/2 Pounds Powdered Sugar (sifted works best)
  • (1) Tsp Cinnamon
  • (1) Tsp Allspice
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla
  • 1/4 Tsp Clove
  • Dash of Nutmeg for top (Optional)
  • Brandy or Rum (Optional)

Step 1: Separate the Egg whites from the yolks.  Beat the egg whites until they are stiff… Thank Goodness for KitchenAid Mixers. Set the egg whites aside and beat the egg yolks until they are light and a little foamy.

Step 2: Take your egg whites and fold them into the yolks. Once they are fairly well mixed , add the powdered sugar and the other flavorings. Continue to fold everything together. Scoop out the mixture and place it  in a 1-1/2 -2 Liter container with a lid.  You can freeze this so it’s ready whenever you want some.

Serving: Add about 3 Tbs. of mixture  to a mug… but there’s no exact right amount… add more if you like it sweeter. Next add hot water. If your mixture is frozen, use nearly boiling water. You want the water to dissolve the mixture. The mixture will float to the top and create a yummy sweat froth or foam, kind of like a cappuccino. Like I said before, if you’re in need of a little extra warmth & you want to make an adult version, add a small amount of Brandy or Rum to your mug before adding the hot water. Finally, you can add a dash of Nutmeg to the top… if you like Nutmeg.  Store the remaining in amount in the freezer.  This will keep up to 3 months.
