Easy DIY Turquoise Earrings

I’ve had a love for all things Southwestern since I went there on a summer outdoor adventure trip in high school. We traveled by van all over the Southwest, up the coast of California and then back to the Midwest. It was one of those trips that leaves life long impressions on one’s heart and one that has helped shape me into the adventurer I am today. My Mom bought me a large Southwestern sweater blanket for Christmas many years ago knowing how much I love the Southwestern look. That sweater must be at least 15 years old by now, and I still love it to this day. It’s big, bulky, comfortable and colorful. It has leather ties that wrap around big Native American influenced buttons.

For years, I’ve had little luck finding earrings that have the same southwestern feel, that compliment this sweater. In my opinion, when it comes to beads, nothing says southwestern better than Turquoise, so when I saw these silver feathers, I knew immediately that these two materials would make the perfect pair of DIY earrings to go with my favorite sweater. These really are a simple pair of DIY earrings that go together in no time. Let’s get started.

Step 1.  Take the head pin and slide any bead combination onto it, including your turquoise bead.

Step 2.  Take the round nose pliers and bend the wire to the left at a 90 degree angle.

Step 3:  Bend the wire back around to the right side.  This will make a loop.  Leave a slight opening.

Step 4.  Slide this onto the feather charm.

Step 5.  Close this loop by using the round nose pliers to wrap around the head pin.  Trim off the excess wire with the wire cutters.

Step 6.  Open the jump ring with the round nose pliers.  Slide the feather charm, that includes your turquoise bead, onto the jump ring.

Step 7.  Slide the jump ring through the bottom hole of the french earring wire.  Close the ring.
