Tis’ the season to be making and giving! If you are looking for a cute gift to make last minute that is sure to get some oohh’s and ahh’s, I have the perfect ornament/gift for you. This is an excellent ornament for any kid or an adult that hasn’t stopped loving Rudolph… like myself. I can’t wait to give this ornament away to someone I know who is a big Rudolph fan.
Here’s What You Need:
- Birch Coaster or Birch Rounds (Choose the desired size. I went with the coaster size since it was being made into an ornament. However, the Birch Rounds would be perfect for gift tags too!)
- Baker’s Twine
- Tinsel Pom Poms
- E6000 adhesive
- Drill Bits
- Skewer or toothpick
- Scrap Piece of Wood
- Small Piece of Felt
- Google Eyes
- Hot Glue
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 1: At the top of the birch round, mark three dots. Two dots will be for the antlers. Make these about and 1″ apart. Then put your third dot in the middle of the two dots. This dot will be the hole where the Baker’s Twine will go to hang the ornament.
Step 2: Clamp the piece of birch wood to a table/work surface. Use a piece of scrap wood underneath your birch wood piece to elevate it off your table/work surface and to make it easier to drill.
Step 3: Drill the two antler holes according to the diameter of the twigs. Drill a smaller hole for the Baker’s Twine.
Step 4: Using a little E6000, apply it to the ends of the Baker’s Twine. This will help keep it from unraveling and make it easier to insert it into the drilled hole. Using a skewer or toothpick, push the Baker’s Twine down into the hole. Let it dry.
Step 5: Use the E6000 again and glue the twig antlers in place. Let them dry.
Step 6: Using the hot glue gun, glue Rudolph’s tinsel pom pom nose & googly eyes in place.
Step 7: Using brown felt, cut out a small smile or any expression that you want your Rudolph to have. You could also draw it on but I really like the 3D look of the felt mouth.
This Rudolph ornament brings a big smile to my face, and my daughters definitely had a few oohh’s and ahh’s for this cute little guy!
