Garden Dragonflies

Garden Dragonflies_FinalHere’s an easy and fun craft to do with your kids in the Spring as well as the Summer.  These simple dragonflies made from spoons will be a hit in your household.  My daughters loved the fact that the dragonflies were made from colorful spoons and they also could create their own designs.  They go together so quick and easy.  You will probably end up with a house full of them.  If my daughters, had their way I know they would! :)

Here’s What You Need:

  • Plastic Spoons (Any color will work.)
  • Couple of Sheets of Transparencies
  • Dragonfly Template
  • Sharpie / Permanent Markers
  • Thin Sharpie (Optional)
  • Scissors
  • Low Temperature Hot Glue Gun
  • Wiggly Eyes
  • Sticks

Step 1:   Download the free dragonfly template above &  print it out.

Step 2:   Lay the transparency over the template and trace the outline of the dragonfly wings with the thin Sharpie marker.  Make sure to hold this firmly in place.  Younger kids will probably need help holding the slippery transparency while tracing.

Drawing ShapesStep 3:   After tracing the wings, fill them in with any colorful designs using the Sharpie markers.

Step 4:   Cut the wings out.

Overlapping WingsStep 5:   Take the cut out wings and slightly overlap them.  Hot glue the wings in place onto the spoon.

Step 6:   Add the wiggly eyes and draw on a little mouth or smile .

Garden Dragonflies_Glue StickStep 7:   Find a skinny stick and hot glue it to the bottom side of the dragonfly.  This is optional. Some kids may want their dragonfly with out the sticks.

Garden Dragonflies_Good 05ALook how cute these turned out!  Here’s our batch before we hot glued the sticks onto them.
