It was my birthday not too long ago. So, I decided that since I was getting up there in age that I wanted to have a birthday cake just the way I wanted it. I also wanted my cake from this amazing bakery in town. I didn’t want the standard grocery store chocolate cake that I often end up getting. So, this year we splurged for a lemon poppy seed cake that had lemon cream cheese icing with a side of rhubarb compote. Can I say that this cake was to die for? I love lemon. But, this was certainly lemon done right. So, upon getting the cake, I made this great birthday cake bunting to go with it.
Here’s What You Need:
- Thin Gold Wire
- Various Washi Tapes In The Color Scheme That You Choose
Step 1: Choose a variety of washi tapes that you want to use. I chose a blue color scheme, but you could choose any varieties that you like.
Step 2: Take two pieces of Washi tape and overlap them just slightly to create a wider piece of tape. You will want roughly 2″ or so. Fold the tape in half and leave a little exposed at the top. This way you will be able to connect the little bunting flag to the wire. Cut this into the shape of a triangle with the edges squared off… just like above. Repeat this process until you have multiple flags.
Step 3: Take the gold wire and wrap it a couple of times around the end of the skewer. Eyeball the distance that you want the bunting to be and also take into consideration if you are going to have any slack or not. Do the same for the second line of bunting. Attach the bunting to the wire and your done.
I loved how this turned out with the the blue color palette. Better yet. I love the simplicity of this and I can’t wait to make another one for an upcoming birthday.
