I love getting outdoors with my girls and going for walks in nature.  This time of year is perfect to have your kids collect some leaves that they can use to make some really cute art work and enjoy the outdoors at the same time.  There are so many things that you can make with leaves… the possibilities are endless.  Here’s a craft idea to make a really ADORable Fox Leaf Art piece with your kids.  You will love how simple this project is and it honestly doesn’t require a whole lot of supplies.  Let’s get started and see just how easy this project is!

Supplies Needed:

  • Variety of Orange or Yellow Leaves
  • Dark Colored Leaves For the Ears
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes or Sharpie Marker
  • Scissors

Step 1:  I learned from experience that it’s best to press the leaves for at least a day.  This way when you glue the foxes to the paper, the leaves won’t curl up and make your foxes look funny.

Step 2:  Cut the stem off the leaf that will be used as the foxes face.  Cut out triangle shapes for the ears.  My daughter cut the ends of the dark leaves for this.  Cut a triangle for the nose.  Glue all of this onto your main leaf.

Step 3:  Glue on the googly eyes.

Step 4:  Glue all of your foxes to your paper or papers.

My daughter thought these were so fun to make that she made several of them.

I love how each one takes on a different personality… the googly eyes make me laugh.

This fox was my daughter’s favorite.  It makes me laugh…thinking this fox must have of had a rough day.  I need to keep this one around for when I have a bad day so I’ll be sure to giggle. 🙂

These really are the cutest.  If you don’t have any googly eyes, just use a piece of white paper and a black marker as a substitute.  I promise your kids will love these and you will just as much too.  They will bring a smile to your face.

Happy creating!

DIY 15 Min Ocean Painting

15-Minute-DIY-Ocean-Painting-Artzy Creations 2

This post was originally create for Darice. I love to paint.  However, with all the demands of being a mom and teaching, I often find it hard to find time for painting.  Well, if you’re super busy like me and are looking for a quick way to get your artistic juices flowing, here’s a super easy and fun DIY painting tutorial on how you can paint your own ocean scene in about 15 minutes.  This allows you to create your own painting in no time at all, and still accomplish all of the other things on your to do list.:)

Ocean Scene DIY Painting Supplies:

Step 1.  Start your DIY painting by mixing the cerulean blue with a little of the titanium white and paint the top portion of the canvas.

As you can see here, I worked with one paper plate and kept blending my colors.  You want to work quickly so the colors blend together and create a nice gradation from one color to the next.  I also used this fan brush because it works best when creating the gradation and doesn’t require using a ton of paint.

Step 2.  To create the next couple layers of the sky, I added a little more cerulean blue back into my mixture.

Step 3.  For the ocean, I used the ultramarine blue and painted a band of color.

Step 4.  Mixing the ultramarine blue with the bright aqua green, I created another gradation into white.   At the bottom, I used a little brown and cream and mixed it with the white to create the sand of the ocean.

Step 5.  I went back and layered some of the titanium white to make it look like the white wash of the waves and I dabbed some of the areas to further emphasize them.

There you have your DIY painting!  Fun, simple, and easy.  All you’re doing is blending some colors and  painting horizontal lines.

This is a great way to experiment with paints and color blending to create a beautiful ocean painting that is sure to impress all of your friends and guests when they come over.  Not to mention, you’ll make your room look nice and relaxing.

Color Blocked Leaves

Gold-Color-Blocked-Leaves-Artzy Creations 1

This post was originally created for Darice.  Fall is such a beautiful time of year.  I love all of the colors of the leaves and how each tree can be so many shades of red, orange, or yellow.  This inspired me to create some simple yet elegant color blocked painted leaves for table decorations this fall.  With Halloween and Thanksgiving coming up, there are so many opportunities to use these pretty gold color blocked leaves to make your table feel festive.  The best part about this project is…it hardly takes anytime at all.

Gold Painted Leaves Supplies:

Just look at how beautiful these leaves are.  They’re the perfect color!

Step 1.  To begin your color block painted leaves projects, take a piece of Washi tape and place it on the leaf at a diagonal. Make sure to smooth the Washi tape down a couple of times with your hands.  This is to prevent the Washi tape from lifting off while you are applying the gold gilding.

Step 2.  Apply the gold gilding on with a paint brush.  Make sure you have proper ventilation when you are using the gold gilding.  The fumes are pretty strong.  When I used this, I was outside.  You will also find that the gilding dries pretty fast too.

Step 3.  Remove the Washi tape and you are finished with your gold painted leaves!

These turn out so pretty!  I know you will love them.

There are so many things that you can use these color blocked painted leaves for.  You could hang them from a chandelier, fill a vase, decorate a table setting and so much more.  The possibilities are endless with these beauties.  Enjoy!

Hi Everyone!  Today, I have another FREE coloring page for you.  This one was a request by my daughter who has been head over heels for pumpkins ever since she could talk.  She asked me if I would create a coloring page based on one of her all time favorite books, The 5 Little Pumpkins.  Of course, I couldn’t say no.  So, I thought I would share this coloring page with you too.  The 5 Little Pumpkin Coloring Page is fun for all ages.  When I was coloring this I couldn’t help but think of the song with the hand motions that I sing with my daughters  in both pre & elementary school.

I love Halloween… but I especially love decorations for Halloween that you can make in a jiffy and look really great.  This just happens to be one of those projects.  Being a busy Mom and an Art Teacher, I don’t always have a lot of the time for labor intensive projects, so I really appreciate the ones that come together quickly.  So, as you can see here, I’ve come up with a project that requires just a little bit of time and a few supplies, resulting in a fun, and not too creepy DIY Wine Barrel Halloween Wreath.
