I don’t know about you, but now that my girls have been back in school for a few weeks, I’ve already been hearing “Really? This _____ in my lunch again?” Yes, only a few weeks in, and already the “Lunchbag Blues” are rearing their ugly head. I don’t know how it is at your house, but in mine, it’s a constant struggle to find healthy, on-the-go snacks or come up with fun ways for them to eat a healthy snack. That’s why California Raisins are a main staple in our home. They are so versatile. You can create so many different combinations or use them completely on their own. And, since California Raisins are an all-natural, dried-by-the-sun fruit, you can actually feel good about sending them in your kids lunch! Well, here are a few of the latest “Lunch Bag Boredom Buster” combinations from the Artz home…
Real Raisin Trail Mix:
My husband loves to hike. He loves to take my girls with him and they love going, but one thing they look forward to most, is making their own trail mix before they head out. What kid doesn’t LOVE the naturally sweet taste of California Raisins, combined with some sweet & salty nuts and Chocolate to top it all off? The best thing about this is you can mix any amount of each ingredient, so mix to your kids taste. This stuff packs great for any outdoor trip, but is also a fantastic on the go, sweet and healthy snack for your son or daughter’s lunch.
- California Raisins (A mixture of Golden and Regular is preferred in my home)
- Honey Roasted Peanuts
- Salted Almonds
- Chocolate pieces with a Hard Candy Shell
Silly Smiling Rice Cakes:
These are almost too cute to eat. Although, my daughter’s seem to have no trouble picking their eyes off one at a time before they munch them down. Crispy mini rice cakes are a great neutral ingredient that really let the naturally sweet raisins shine. These are quick to make, and easy to pack. If you’re layering them up in a container, just use a piece of wax paper between layers to keep the top ones from sticking to the ones below.
- California Raisins
- Mini Rice Cakes
- Peanut Butter or Substitute Cream Cheese (For Kids with Nut Allergies)
Apple Raisin Flowers:
Fruit, Fruit and Creamy goodness! All in a few delicious bites. MMMM… California naturally sweet raisins, crisp apple slices and Protein packed peanut butter. This is my take on “an oldie but goodie” combination. My daughters love how pretty these are when you arrange the raisins in the floral pattern. (Hint: rub a very small amount of lemon juice on the bottom of the apple slice to keep it from turning brown & pack them in an airtight plastic container) These snacks look super cute and taste even better! Your kids will be the envy of the lunch table with these.
- California Raisins
- Sliced Apple
- Peanut Butter
- Small Amount of Lemon Juice (to keep the apple slices from browning)
So, as you can see, if you’re looking for a delicious, non fat, convenient and portable, healthy snack, look no further than one of Natures Finest… the California Raisin!
