Wood Slice Turkeys For Kids

Wood Slice Turkeys for Kids-Artzy Creations 5

At our house, it’s typically a long day for the kids and they get a little restless waiting for the big Thanksgiving dinner.  Not this year… I’ve come up with a clever way to create a turkey  using just a few materials and some wood slices.  I love wood slices and how versatile they are for so many crafts.  Plus, they make the cutest darned turkeys.

This project is great because you can have the pieces pre cut and put in separate bags for the kids to complete on Thanksgiving day.  That really helps make this project extra simple, easy to distribute and manage on that busy day.

Wood Slice Turkeys for Kids-Artzy Creations

Supplies Needed:

  • Wood Slices
  • Red Felt
  • Orange Felt
  • Googly Eyes
  • Tacky Glue (It’s great for kids to use for this project.) or Hot Glue
  • Colored Ribbon

Step 1:  Cut several pieces of different colored ribbon to roughly 3″ in length.  Make a loop and place a dab of glue between the ends of the ribbon to glue them together.

Wood Slice Turkeys for Kids-Artzy Creations 1

Step 2:  Glue the loops of ribbon to the back of the turkey and space them out just a little bit in a fan pattern.

Step 3:  Next, you will create the legs of the turkey by taking two pieces of ribbon, roughly 1″ in lenght and glue these pieces to the back of the turkey.  If you’re using ribbon with a pattern (like mine) make sure the pattern is facing the front so you can see it.  You can angle the legs like I did or have them just go straight up and down.

Wood Slice Turkeys for Kids-Artzy Creations 2

Step 3:  Take a little piece of red felt and a cut a curved waddle shape.  Use a small piece of orange felt and cut a triangle for the beak.

Step 4:  Glue the waddle shape down first.  Followed by the beak.  Finally, glue the googly eyes on.

Wood Slice Turkeys for Kids-Artzy Creations 3

Look at these cute turkeys.  They will be a kid crowd pleaser for sure.

They are not only cute, but they make great a table decorations.  You could also turn these into magnets for the fridge too.

Give Thanks Sign with Free Cut File

Give Thanks Sign 2

This post was originally created for Darice.  Fall has arrived and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here.  I absolutely love this time of the year. Well, in order to help celebrate, I’m sharing this very easy DIY Thanksgiving decor tutorial showing you how to make your own Give Thanks sign. Plus, I’ve included a free cut file.

For this DIY Thanksgiving decor I wanted to create a sign that is pretty versatile and a little different from your traditional Thanksgiving colors. I love the splash of floral and the pop of glitter that this sign gives.

Step 4.  Apply Mod Podge to the top of the scrapbook paper.  Make sure to brush on the Mod Podge going in one direction.

Step 5.  Cut the “Give Thanks” out on a cut machine.  Apply Mod Podge to the back side only of the cut out letters.

This Give Thanks sign is really a perfect reminder that you can leave up all year long.  I love how easy these are to make.  I think I might just have to make a few of these up as gifts for Thanksgiving or for the holidays.

Fox Leaf Art For Kids

Create a fun and simple craft with your kiddos that cost next to nothing by using some fall leaves to make cute foxes.

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids 1 a

I love getting outdoors with my girls and going for walks in nature.  This time of year is perfect to have your kids collect some leaves that they can use to make some really cute art work and enjoy the outdoors at the same time.  There are so many things that you can make with leaves… the possibilities are endless.  Here’s a craft idea to make a really ADORable Fox Leaf Art piece with your kids.  You will love how simple this project is and it honestly doesn’t require a whole lot of supplies.  Let’s get started and see just how easy this project is!

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids

Supplies Needed:

  • Variety of Orange or Yellow Leaves
  • Dark Colored Leaves For the Ears
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes or Sharpie Marker
  • Scissors

Step 1:  I learned from experience that it’s best to press the leaves for at least a day.  This way when you glue the foxes to the paper, the leaves won’t curl up and make your foxes look funny.

Step 2:  Cut the stem off the leaf that will be used as the foxes face.  Cut out triangle shapes for the ears.  My daughter cut the ends of the dark leaves for this.  Cut a triangle for the nose.  Glue all of this onto your main leaf.

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids 2

Step 3:  Glue on the googly eyes.

Step 4:  Glue all of your foxes to your paper or papers.

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids 3

My daughter thought these were so fun to make that she made several of them.

I love how each one takes on a different personality… the googly eyes make me laugh.

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids 4

This fox was my daughter’s favorite.  It makes me laugh…thinking this fox must have of had a rough day.  I need to keep this one around for when I have a bad day so I’ll be sure to giggle. 🙂

Fox-Leaf-Art-For-Kids 5

These really are the cutest.  If you don’t have any googly eyes, just use a piece of white paper and a black marker as a substitute.  I promise your kids will love these and you will just as much too.  They will bring a smile to your face.

Happy creating!

5 Minute Mason Jar Christmas Decor

5 Min-Mason-Jar-Christmas-Decor-Artzy Creations 1

Do you need a quick Holiday decoration?  Are you looking for a really cute gift idea?  This quick and simple 5 Minute Mason Jar Christmas Decor combines the best of these two ideas.  Not only does this project make for a quick and simple Christmas decor but it is also beyond cute.  If you really wanted to, you could give it away, but I don’t think I will be parting with mine.  I have a slight obsession with Mason Jars and this one is too cute.  Let me show you just how easy it is to create this very simple project.  Let’s get started!

5-Min 2

Supplies Needed:

  • Soft Snow
  • Little Christmas Tree
  • Mason Jar with Chain Lid (These can be found at Michael’s)
  • Hot Glue
  • Hot Glue Gun

Step 1:  Hot glue the tree to the inside bottom of your mason jar.

Step 2:  Fill with a fair amount of Soft Snow and hang!

5-Min

Yup, it’s really that simple.  You could have a couple of these hanging in a large window, one on either side of a fire place, or perhaps several hanging from a tree.  The possibilities are just endless.

5 Min-Mason-Jar-Christmas-Decor-Artzy Creations 4

Have fun making this jar of cuteness!  I can’t wait to share more of my cute holiday creations with you.  Until then…

Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites

Sometimes I act like a kid. And as a kid, I was a picky eater. I don’t like sushi. I try to like sushi. I just don’t. I can force myself to enjoy a few bites if I try real hard, but then, not a fan. Sushi lovers are always telling me I just haven’t been to the right sushi place. So I go with them. And manage a few not awful bites. And then it is over. My sushi loving friends also tell me I have not tried the right variety. Have you tried…? I try it; don’t love it. I feel a little Sam I Am-ish about sushi. With so many people telling me how good it is, there just has to be a way for me to like sushi.Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites - This is a simplified recipe that has great flavor. Gluten Free and almost paleo! First time I had this I fell in love! Had to find a way to make it at home with easy to find ingredients. This is easy and delish!

Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites are not sushi. I LOVE them! This is my all time favorite dessert for my friends who are gluten sensitivite, because it doesn’t taste like a version of something that normally has gluten. This sweet dessert tastes just like it should. Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites are my kind of comfort food. These bite size desserts are a great way to get kids to try something new and expand their palate.

A friend of mine introduced me to this dessert and it was love at first bite. I have been looking for a super easy way to make it myself. Some recipes for this traditional thai dessert can be quite complicated. Not so here. This recipe is is so simple with ingredients that are easy to find and tastes amazing. Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites - This is a simplified recipe that has great flavor. Gluten Free and almost paleo! First time I had this I fell in love! Had to find a way to make it at home with easy to find ingredients. This is easy and delish!

So I thought to my sushi adverse self, would I still like this dessert if it were in the form of sushi? I bought myself a sushi mold to test the theory. I know this is not traditional sushi. Thailand is not Japan. But putting Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice into a sushi mold made the perfect little bite!

Sweet Thai Coconut Mango Sticky Rice Bites - This is a simplified recipe that has great flavor. Gluten Free and almost paleo! First time I had this I fell in love! Had to find a way to make it at home with easy to find ingredients. This is easy and delish! So if you will let me call this sushi, then I like sushi! If you don’t think this counts, then I don’t like sushi. These sushi molds are the coolest thing! The little hole at the top lets you push the sushi right out perfectly formed.

.

The colors are beautiful! Don’t be afraid to experiment with different fruits. Berries or kiwi or banana would be some other kid favs. That might freak out those who know this traditional dessert well. It is ALWAYS served with mango! But then, I turned mine into sushi, so I am all about playing with you food. So I give you permission to get creative and serve it however your family will like it best. I like it best in my mouth.
